This is a "bounce the baby" game, where parents or caretakers may sing this to a baby or very small child while bouncing the child on the caretaker's lap. On the high notes (on "Mháire" in the first verse, or "haerach" in the chorus, for example), the caretaker lifts the child high in the air. My goddaughter LOVED this game when she still small enough that I could play it with her.
