about

Tune traditional Irish ("Siúil a Rún"), Lyrics by Caera
This is based on a traditional Irish song, "Siúil a Rún". "Siúil a Rún" is a sad song, in which a woman is singing about her lover going to France as a soldier of fortune, and her not knowing if she’ll ever see him again. I was listening to that song one night and I thought I’d had about enough of sad songs about people leaving. I wondered what would happen if someone actually came back, and this was the result:

lyrics

Curfa:
Fáilte, fáilte, fáilte a rún
Fáilte go sonas agus fáilte go grá buan
Fáilte go beatha nua, croíúil liom
Is go deimhin 's tú mo mhúirnín, a ghrá

(Translation:
Welcome, welcome, welcome, Love
Welcome to happiness and welcome to lasting love
Welcome to a warm, new life me
And of course you are always my darling, Love)

I remember when you left from yonder hill;
To seek your fortune was your will,
But you're back, a promise to fulfill
Is go deimhin 's tú mo mhúirnín, a ghrá

You sold your good shirt, you sold your meal
You sold your only sword of steel
To return to your love and your home ideal
Is go deimhin 's tú mo mhúirnín, a ghrá

We'll paint our home, we'll paint it red
And it's from our hearth our clan will be fed
Until all our sorrows have gone and fled
Is go deimhin 's tú mo mhúirnín, a ghrá

I wished, I wished, I wished not in vain
I wished I had you here again
And now you're here and here you will remain
Is go deimhin 's tú mo mhúirnín, a ghrá

And now our love has every chance
To try our fortunes to advance
As it e'er comes back, in an e'er wid'ning dance
Is go deimhin 's tú mo mhúirnín, a ghrá
